INSIDE OUR MYSTICAL WINERY
The elaboration of our wines under Feng Shui, Gregorian chants and the effect of gravity.
Inaugurated in December 2004, our Apalta winery in the Colchagua Valley has a capacity of 2,300,000 liters. Its design represented a qualitative leap in the production of Montes` most acclaimed red wines: Montes Alpha and the iconic Montes Alpha M, Montes Folly, and Purple Angel. It is the most modern winery in terms of technology and equipment in our country and has the capacity to produce the finest wines in Chile.
Our winery blends seamlessly with the gentle hillside of vineyards that climb the Coastal Mountain Range. Its spectacular location, at the base of the range, offers a panoramic view of the vineyard and its beautiful natural surroundings.
The principles of Feng Shui incorporated into the design of our winery aim to ensure harmony by connecting us with the outer universe.
The design of our winery, based on the principles of Feng Shui, marked a qualitative leap in the production of our iconic wines: Montes Alpha, Montes Alpha M, Montes Folly, and Purple Angel. The goal was to ensure harmony in a positive atmosphere for both our employees and Montes wines. The elements applied to our winery are:
At the entrance of the building, there is a wooden access path over a small lagoon, with water flowing towards the building. `Prosperity will only come if the water, which represents energy, flows towards the center of the building, instead of flowing away from it.` Wood is the living element, promoting growth and development, giving the momentum for things to continue on their initial course.

This element is associated with concentration, introspection, and self-discovery, as well as strength, honesty, and justice. The Ford trucks parked at the main entrance of the winery incorporate this element, representing maturity and experience.
Our winery has incorporated the latest technology in winemaking. In order to stay true to our principle of maintaining minimal wine handling, we have excluded the installation of pumps. We decided that gravity would be the force to move the grapes, from the moment they are crushed on the roof of our winery, to then transport the must and the new wine within it. This natural inertia allows us to give them top-class treatment, resulting in more delicate wines with smooth tannins.
Within the architectural design of our winery, at its deepest point, lies the French Barrel Room, where the calm and harmony of Gregorian Chants accompany the aging process of our premium wines throughout the 365 days of the year. The room is arranged in a semicircle, giving it the appearance of a theatrical stage, with more than 800 French oak barrels that protect and mature our wines
Gregorian chants use a rhythm similar to breathing, creating harmony between the sung phase and the "singer`s" breath. For this reason, this music is known to promote meditation and introspection: the breathing slows down, and the heart rate decreases, inducing a powerful state of relaxation.
