Colchagua

Colchagua is one of Chile’s most prestigious wine regions, where Montes Wines was a pioneer in establishing its vineyards. Situated in the country’s central region, it comprises vineyards in Apalta and Marchigüe, two exceptional terroirs. Apalta’s gentle sun exposure allows for a slow, complete ripening of the grapes, while in Marchigüe, close to the Pacific Ocean, red grapes mature under the influence of cooler temperatures.

MARCHIGÜE

In the Colchagua Valley, between the Coastal Mountain Range and the sea, our Marchigüe vineyards lie within gently undulating terrain that reaches the Pacific Ocean some 25 kilometres away. Here, our red grapes ripen slowly under the influence of slightly cooler temperatures. The topography is considerably flatter than at Apalta, characterised by low-sloping hills. The soils are shallow, often no more than 60 centimetres deep, with moderate clay content and a high capacity for water retention.
